The Garmin Nuvi 205 is a no-frills, basic, sat nav for the UK and Ireland. It's been around for a while, so it's easy to pick up new, refurbished or second-hand for a bargain price.
Features
3.5" Touchscreen display. It's a decent screen, bright, colourful, and easy to read even in direct sunlight. The touchscreen is responsive and it's easy to select the correct option even if you have 'fat fingers'.
Turn-by-Turn Directions. A rather stern sounding lady will give you clear instructions whenever you need to make a turn or need to alter course.
City Navigator Maps. No sat nav would be complete without some decent road and city maps. The Garmin Nuvi 205 has high quality, detailed, maps for the UK and Ireland from City Navigator.
Speed camera Database. The Cyclops database will alert you when you are close to any fixed, mobile, or temporary speed camera.
Photo navigation. A bit of a gimmick but could be useful if you have any photos that are geo-tagged: just transfer the photo into the Nuvi 205 and ask it to take you there!
Personalise. Add a personal touch and change the vehicle icon to something new.
There are many features that the Nuvi 205 is lacking but to fault if for that would be a mistake. It's a basic simple, low cost, sat nav that does it's job well. If you need, or want, more advanced features then you need to consider something like the Garmin Nuvi 255WT. For what it is, the Garmin Nuvi 205 is a great sat nav for a bargain price and an ideal first sat nav.
If you purchase the Garmin Nuvi 205 make sure you get, or buy, the usb cable to attach it to your computer. You will need it to update the maps and to customise the features.
