Forerunner 305
This is a wrist-watch style device, but it's far from just a watch. It has functions to monitor and record your sports activity, everything from your speed, location and heart-rate. Using the built-in GPS you can even design your own trail route and have the Garmin 305 give your directions as you go. Once you get home, connect the device to your computer and all the data is saved. You can then review your performance to identify weak spots and also compare your performance over time.

Edge 305
The Garmin Edge 305 is a GPS-enabled device designed to be used with a bicycle. It can monitor your cadence wirelessly, determine the current altitude and of course there is a built-in wireless heart-rate monitor. As with the Forerunner you can upload all the recorded data to your computer for analysis.
The Edge 305 has actually been superseded by another Garmin product: The Edge 705. However, the 705 is considerably more expensive and you can usually find a pretty good bargain on the Edge 305.
