TomTom ONE Classic UK & RoI Satellite Navigation System Sale Price£124.78 |
The TomTom One has always been one of TomTom's most popular and best-selling range of sat navs. It has been revised and updated a number of times and can be confusingly referred to as "classic" or by it's version number (currently V4). This is the latest incarnation, first introduced in the UK in April 2009.
The TomTom One is a basic, entry-level, sat nav - but don't let that fool you. It's a very capable device with most of the standard sat nav features you are likely to need. It is designed to be extremely easy to use. Most people will be quite happy to take it out of the box and start using it, without even needing to refer to the instruction manual. Certainly for the most commonly used function: getting from A to B, you shouldn't have any trouble using the TomTom One.
Included in the package are, of course, maps of the UK and Ireland. These can be updated online -- free if it's within thirty days of purchase, after that you have to pay a small fee. In addition, with the MapShare feature you can make your own corrections and updates to the maps, you can even share your changes with other TomTom One owners.
Sometimes, you just need to know how to find the nearest petrol station, hospital, or similar location. Just enter into the TomTom One 'Points of Interest' mode and you can quickly get directions. Similarly, if you need to drive to the airport or train station you can quickly get the best route and get started on your journey.
The TomTom One is supplied with an versatile holder, the EasyPort. You can quickly attach the sat nav into a comfortable and easy-to-view position in your car. The battery life for the TomTom One is about 2 hours, so if you're going on a longer journey don't forget to use the supplied in-car charger.
The 3.5" screen is clear, easy to read and use (you select all of the options using the touchscreen). If you prefer you can also get all the same features, but with a larger 4.3" screen with the TomTom One XL.
If you're planning on driving in Europe, either your own car or a hire car, then spend a little extra and get the TomTom One Classic: Europe. This will give you maps for 42 countries in Europe.
All in all, for the price the TomTom One is highly recommended and already has thousands of satisfied users. If you have more advanced requirements, eg getting information on the latest traffic flow on your route, you will need to consider a different unit.
Summary: Great sat nav, easy to use at a great price.
